Horten 229 Flying Wing 1:48
Hilter's Stealth Fighter
The Horten Ho-229 Flying Wing, a.k.a Hilter's Stealth Fighter, was one of the very few German WWII aircraft that was capable of carrying 1000 kg bombs with speeds of 1000 km/hr with a range of 1000 km. It is powered by a turbojet engine embedded in the wing. Its design and development may have form the seminal work that lead to the modern day stealth technology used in the B-2 Stealth Bomber. Reimar Horten pioneered the idea that a flying wing designed with mixed charcoal dust combined with wood adhersives to absorbed radar signals would reduce detection by radar. This, combined with a merged fuselage and wings geometry was proven to reduce the radar cross section by 40% in 2008 by Northcorp-Grumman.
This is an extremely rare, museum quality Horten Ho-229, as the kit for this aircraft is no longer in production and is extremely hard to find. This model is built with slight weathering, realistic fume exhaust are lightly airbrushed behind the turbojet engine. Panel lines are carefully rescribed to match the original Ho-229. Camouflage are matched exactly to the WWII Luftwaffe color schemes. Walk path for the pilot are carefully denoted in red to match the lines found on the original aircraft. This is a delightful item for any serious collector interested in German aviation history.
